Macrobetix – ”Gareth Edwards science fiction film that raises questions around Ai, its future applications and at what point Ai can be considered alive or just playing out programming.
The story is that Ai and automation begins to take over vast parts of daily life, even national defence. That is until it decides to drop an Atomic bomb on Los Angeles that triggers a war between man and machine. It is later revealed that it was in fact a human error that led to the incident and the machines actually want to live in harmony with people.
The main character Joshua’s pregnant wife is killed when the military attempts to wipe out a camp of machines he is currently spying on as an undercover agent, trying to find the ‘super weapon’ of the Ai named Nirmata. It turns out that this ‘super weapon’ is in fact a new evolution of machine that can control technology and has the power to end the war and bring peace between man and machine once more.
Some fantastic vfx throughout and visuals that clearly draw reference from films like Apocalypse Now & Blade Runner. It hits some major philosophical points, but approaches them in a more action based narrative, rather than the likes of 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Overall a really good action science fiction with a strong compelling story line.”
